Michael James Armstrong

Michael James Armstrong has a strong affinity for design of the 1930’s and the art and architecture of New York City. Through what he calls Arrowchitectural Decograf (arrows as architecture using the combined styles of Art Deco and early 1980’s subway graffiti), Michael’s paintings are, all at once, influenced by early Twentieth Century industrial designers, architects, and even jazz musicians. The large scale, vivid colors, and hard edged graphic qualities of his work are all representative of “the grandeur of a freshly painted subway car on the elevated tracks traveling through a maze of the grit and gleam of immaculately designed icons of skyline.”
